Some views on Political Manifesto

Parliamentary elections in our country can best be referred as festival of democracy and yet test of it, where the entire world looks at us for being the largest democracy.

I could not resist speaking few words about democracy. Democracy is achieving of numbers where citizens of age of reason has collectively posed faith in one and rejected all others. The democracy entails that a sovereign citizen agrees to forego his/her sovereignty to the sovereign govt in return for rule of law. The Sovereign Govt thus thereby ensure rule of law in the society.

At the outset I make sincere effort, of course with my limited wisdom, to outline attributes and elements of a Manifesto by Political Sovereign-

A manifesto by a Political sovereign is a positive and palpable promise and also an appeal to adult franchise of the citizens of India, that if they are so voted to be able to form a Govt, a Govt which is endowed with all inherent powers and privileges like other sovereign Govts of the world, they will do this, read promises of the manifesto.

A manifesto is a full canvas of national issues, be it of environment, women’s rights, education, health, Justice system, you name it, it’s all there.

A Manifesto is crafted meticulously by a Political sovereign and every letter in it represents the wishes and ambitions of people of India. It is presumed to have come into being after enormous deliberations among senior party leaders, well taking into account prevailing constraints. Thus, a Political sovereign who so declare in a Manifesto, deemed to have taken into consideration of coalition constraints or financial constraints and other constraints which has notorious existence.

I now tries to answer as why Manifesto of a Political Sovereign assumes great significance-

The first and foremost, Manifesto reflects how a Political Sovereign is alive to the needs and desires of the people and it shows how a Political sovereign is conscious of issues that has plagued society which need immediate redressal.

Notwithstanding that the ordinary man is completely disillusioned with present political system, yet a document called Manifesto by Political Sovereign during the festival of democracy, inspires a fresh hope and renewed faith in the mass people of India who thus exercise his franchise in the light of manifesto promises.

We are a Nation plagued with issues, you name it and we have it.

A life of a human being is perhaps more important than the entire wealth of the globe mountains and rivers oceans and forests together. Ask a mother, who has lost his child in the terror attack, or ask a child who has lost divine love of his mother or father, or ask a wife now without husband. A mother of Army Officer will vote to a party so that another son Sandeep Unnikrishnan is not lost.

The Poor and the physically and mentally challenged of India are the most Courageous in the World by any standard the Petitioners believes. They show the real desire of living amidst grave callousness of the People and the Govt alike. Thus they look at Political manifesto, whether the forthcoming Govt will pull them out of ugly poverty.

Homelessness is one of the worst thing that a nation can have in Republic democracy. Suffocating ambience , miserable living conditions, exploitative- man made and natural conditions, unsuitable for human kind, a sign of resignation and hopelessness, a state of continuous calamity, a continuous source of shame, annoyance and humiliation,- mark the living conditions of homeless families comprising innocents childrens and infirm old men in city of mumbai.

We are a country where a mother loses his divine child for absence of adequate medical facilities and of preventable diseases. With no grain left and no money to buy, imagine the plight of a mother of hungry child.

A continuous source of shame, annoyance, humiliation and frustration for women forced to defecate in open. We are a country where a life is cut short of contaminated drinking water.

Talk about Police Institution- Without Law, they rule us by fear.

Act of begging per se is one of the worst form of patent human suffering and when this begging is qualified with child, it becomes offensive.

The enterprise of agriculture is subject to a great many uncertainties. Yet, more people in India earn their livelihood from this sector, than from all other economic sectors put together.

If anything in which India has surpassed the world community and placed itself in undisputed world leader is its largest child labour force, the highest no. of malnourished childrens, the most dreaded place for trafficking, the highest out of school childrens. India is branded as one of the most dangerous place for kids. This is in complete contrast to our National policy for children which says, “The Nation's Childrens are a Supremely Important Asset. Their Nurture and Solicitude are our responsibility. Childrens Programme should find a prominent place in our National plans, for the Development of Human Resources, so that our Childrens grow up to become Robust Citizens, Physically fit, Mentally alert and Morally healthy, endowed with the Skills and Motivations needed by Society.”

The people in India now habitually, helplessly and persistently living under the constant shadow of various forms of protests.

Despite that our Judiciary is well independent and empowered to address issues plagued it, it look at Govt or rather blame govt. Instead, a culture of blame game has developed wherein the Governance blames interference by political executives and vice versa; Legislatures and Governance blame the Judiciary and again vice versa.

The Citizens of India legitimately presumed to have exercise their franchise in the light of promises so made in Manifesto. A human being is bundle of his/her thoughts which influences his decision making process. Each human is unique in his/ her thoughts. There are people who feel that Environment is a key issue amongst all issues. There are people who feel that law and order is key. There are who feel that care and protection of vulnerable section of the society should be the prime concern of the govt. There are who feel that Justice delivery is the soul of democracy in the absence of which the most cherished Rule of Law is a mockery.

A bare look at Political manifesto will only suggest that we are a nation ruled by Saints against the general feeling of scoundrels. No Political sovereign has fared badly when it comes to making promises. No sectional interest has been forgotten, no vote bank left untargeted. If you are making promises make them as tall as you can. In the event being voted to power, you can always site mitigating factors for your failures.

The present scenario with respect to manifesto may well be described as, it is an indefinable something to be done, in a way nobody knows how, at a time nobody knows when, that will accomplish nobody knows what.”

No accountability of Political Manifesto is akin to say that Political parties is allowed to cheat with the sentiments of the People of India wherein they make written promises and forget them as had never been made.

What should concern us is not that it is happening, but that it is been allowed to happen for so long unchecked.
